Organ of the Board of FaroThe 300 years since the beginning of the construction of the great organ of the Cathedral of Faro they are celebrated this year, which is the pretext for the Associação Cultural Música XXI, which organizes the 8th edition of the Festival de Organ, to include in the program, in addition to concerts, activities concentrated in the Igreja da Sé.

The organ of the See of Faro it is a historical instrument of internationally recognized importance, with German and Italian influences in its construction and successive restorations.

Thus, on November 7th, at Igreja da Sé, the opening concert features João Vaz, currently the most recognized Portuguese organist, with an intense concert career in Portugal and abroad, along with his work as a university professor and researcher. This concert has the special support of the INATEL Foundation.

This is followed, on November 14, at Igreja da Sé, by the presentation of the Italian/Brazilian organist Marco Brescia, a musician who is frequently invited to perform in prestigious festivals and international concert cycles in Europe and America.

The event then moves to the Igreja do Carmo, on November 21, where Rute Martins will echo in the organ pipes her mastery as a disciple of professor Antoine Sibertin Blanc.

To end the event, on November 28, Igreja do Carmo will host a chamber music concert with Diogo Pombo on organ and Nuno Miguel Silva on saxophone. Certainly, an unusual formation.

With regard to activities beyond the concerts, from November 5th to 30th, the Igreja da Sé receives a photographic exhibition on the organ of the Sé, while on the 7th, from 12 pm to 13 pm, in that church in Faro, there will be a workshop of tuning with the organ maker Dinarte Machado. On the same day and place, but at 21 pm, a brochure on the 00 years of the instrument will be launched.

Organist João Vaz will be responsible for a workshop on organ, on the 8th, in the morning and afternoon, while on the 14th, at 21 pm, there will be a lecture on the Sé organ with organ maker Dinarte Machado and organist Marco Brescia.

Finally, on November 21, at Igreja do Carmo, the organ maker António Simões will give an organ tuning workshop.

The Organ Festival – Faro 2015 is co-organized by Associação Cultural Música XXI and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, in partnership with the Municipality of Faro, the INATEL Foundation and the Hotel Faro. It has support for the dissemination of Sul Informação, FM Street and Antenna 2.
