Feira de Santa Iria will return to Largo de S. Francisco, in Faro, between 16th and 25th of October. One of the oldest and largest fairs in the Algarve will once again bring exhibitions, institutional stands, entertainment, taverns, handicrafts, dried fruits, plenty, cotton candy and stalls selling various products to the Algarve capital.
The fair, which, according to some historians, predates the year 1596, when King Filipe I granted it the franchise – free fair, continues, according to AmbiFaro, "to maintain its popular characteristics by presenting a great diversity of attractions and reasons of interest".
The fact that the fair takes place in Largo de São Francisco usually complicates parking, as this is the main free car park in the city. Therefore, according to Bruno Lage, president of Ambifaro, as a way to minimize this problem, «the organization, as in the previous year, decided, with the support of the municipality, to reserve the entire parking lot in Pontinha, on weekdays (not including weekends) at the period between 12 and 30 October inclusive (3 weeks), to be used free of charge by all those who need a space to park in downtown Faro».
Feira de Santa Iria is organized by Ambifaro, in partnership with the City Council of Faro.
