VRSA-Sports-Complex1The Sports Complex of Vila Real de Santo António was officially integrated by the Sports Foundation into the national network of High Performance Sports Centres, and is dedicated to athletics, judo, football, triathlon and swimming.

According to the Chamber of VRSA, «with this distinction, the Sports Complex further expands its national and international notoriety and becomes an institution of excellence that brings together the skills of training, research, medicine, psychology, physiotherapy and nutrition , being the only one of its kind south of the Tagus».

For Luís Gomes, President of the City Council, «this certification allows for greater profitability of the equipment and infrastructure of the Municipal Sports Complex, which now have new financing mechanisms, further enhancing its internationalization and creating conditions for the development of a true economy of sport'.

In order to ensure this partnership, VRSA SGU – municipal company managing the Sports Complex – and the Sports Foundation will sign, this Thursday, a sports support protocol that will allow the granting of a financial contribution to the sports project of the Centro de High Yield of VRSA.

«For the first time, the VRSA Sports Complex receives clear institutional support from the Government to promote sport at the highest level and continue its international promotion strategy, thus seeing the specialization work being carried out for some years recognized. , by the municipality, in terms of sports medicine and rehabilitation», continues the mayor.

VRSA Sports ComplexThe formalization of this protocol follows another already signed in 2014 between the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, VRSA – Society for Urban Management, the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, the Portuguese Athletics Federation, the Federation of Triathlon of Portugal, the Portuguese Swimming Federation, the Portuguese Judo Federation and the Portuguese Football Federation, which laid the foundations for the functioning of the local management committee of the VRSA CAR.

The High Performance Centers (CAR) are a network of sports infrastructure with specialized skills and oriented towards the investigation, improvement and training of high-performance players or national teams and aim to promote the development of various sports according to international standards .

The network currently has 13 centers that seek to meet the needs of sports federations, detect and enhance talent, enable internships, evaluate, control and optimize training, assist scientific research and monitor results.

The VRSA CAR's local management committee also has the mission of signing protocols with the business sector, schools, universities and other relevant institutions, in conjunction with the CAR's Executive Management Committee and the Sports Foundation.
