airport2the airport of Faro it will have a strengthening of its links to Europe in the next winter season 2015/16, thus helping to minimize the effect of seasonality in the region.

The new connections and routes this season represent an increase in the number of available seats: 148.254 seats, an increase of 11,2% compared to last winter.

In all, there are three new winter routes – Cardiff (Wales), by Flybe, Memmingen (Bavaria, Germany), by Ryanair, and Zurich (Switzerland), by Air Berlin -, four new companies operating routes that already exist in the Airport and seven reinforcements in existing operations.

In July, in his interview with Sul Informação, the first he gave to a media agency after taking on new roles as director of the Airport of Faro, Alberto Mota Borges had already announced the reinforcement and launch of new winter routes as a great novelty.. But the news does not stop there, as the director of the Algarve's airport infrastructure also spoke of "new routes to France, Central and Eastern Europe", to be announced "soon".

ANA Aeroportos de Portugal is «aware of the importance of adequate air accessibility for the development of the region and the tourist destination of the Algarve, stressing that «together with its national and regional tourism partners, it has been working with airlines and tour operators with the objective of strengthening the offer of flights to the Airport of Faro in the winter period'.

Among other measures, ANA has been investing in the Airport of Faro, in a «progressive tariff differentiation, charging significantly lower rates in winter than in summer and applying a policy of incentives to the development of traffic that concentrates the greatest support in the winter period».

According to the company of the French group Vinci, "the response to this strategy is starting to show its first results, with a growing number of airlines to strengthen their winter operations".

ANA also says that it hopes that «this renewed commitment to breaking seasonality by some companies will be the beginning of a new virtuous cycle that will lead to an increase and qualification of the winter offer in the region, which, in turn, will be the engine for a growing dynamic in the reinforcement of operations and routes».
