CM saltDesigners João Abreu Valente and Vilma André come together for a new interpretation of Sal de Castro Marim in the Bairro das Artes – the cultural rentrée of the 7th Colina de Lisboa, which opens on the 17th of September. The initiative has the support and collaboration of the Castro Marim City Council and the producer Salmarim.

The Sal de Castro Marim, represented in the NaCI project, will be on display at Arquivo 237 (Rua da Rosa, 237 | 1200 Lisbon), a cultural space that presents an annual program of contemporary design, architecture and new media. There are 30 spaces associated with Bairro das Artes this year.

João Valente and Vilma André explore salt as a potential raw material for researching new processes and solutions in contemporary design and present this work in five stages: 1. documentation and infographics (history and information about salt, place and activity) ; 2. Laboratory (experimentation and free investigation – salt and other materials); 3. Utopia (trying salt in utopian contexts, for example salt shoes); 4. Realization (potential products and uses); 5. tasting.

The objective of this exhibition, in addition to a new approach to the potential of salt as a natural, national and renewable resource, also aims to show the importance and value of research, free exploration and creativity as a basis for evolution and growth, in an attempt to opening to new design exercises, similar to what is already being developed in other countries around the world.
