The University of Algarve's Freshman Reception Week starts this Wednesday and will have new students and veterans of the Algarve Higher Education institution celebrating, until the 24th of September.
In 2015, there are some new features, namely the relocation of the venue for this party of the Academic Association of UAlg and a redoubled attention to the process of the practices.
The venue that will host shows, every night, for more than a week, is no longer in the Municipal Swimming Pools of Faro and move… to the land in front of this infrastructure. AAUAlg, which organizes this party, will set up a tent in a fenced plot, in the place where the Academic Week has been held in recent years.
“This year we decided to innovate, or we were forced to do so, and we are going to change our location. The entire venue was rethought, but if the organization is not rethinking and changing, the public also does not interact with the event», revealed the president of AAUAlg Nuno Lopes, in an interview he gave to the Sul Informação and to Rádio Universitária do Algarve RUA FM, which can be heard in its entirety today, Wednesday, at 19 pm, on 102.7 FM.
«The concept we had before, in addition to being a little exhausted, also brought constraints to the City Council, so we decided to make this change. This time, we will only have one stage and everyone will have a view to it, which didn't happen before, as there were two distinct zones. This year, everyone will realize that this is a unique space, which will make the event much more inclusive», he said.
It will be in this space that the Alcoholization of Perus will take place, which closes the Reception for Caloiro, on 24 September. But not all the highlights of the event take place at the venue, such as the Opening Serenade, which takes place today, Wednesday, at Largo do Carmo, one minute before midnight, and the Caloiro Parade, in the afternoon of next Tuesday, the 22nd, which will connect the Penha Campus to the Doca de Faro.
What will not be limited to the enclosure either, but which Nuno Lopes expects to remain in controlled spaces, namely “inside the University Campus”, is the practice itself. The current general direction of AAUAlg followed the path of pedagogy and promoted sessions with both new students and the usual committees, to remember that this practice must have a spirit of integration and that it is the right of freshmen to choose to participate or stay out.
«During enrollments, we promoted sessions for the presentation of the Academic Association, where we tried to convey to new students what their rights are, which are total. They can enter the practice and leave whenever they want, or not adhere to it at all. Since we, members of the general management, had been praxed, we advised them to, at least, try it or go and see how it is», he said.
On the other hand, also during the first week of enrollment, sessions were held with those who will be happy. "We also conveyed to them that new students can choose not to be praxed and that our freedom begins where the other ends," he added.
A message that only reached the course committees, made up of third-year students, but which Nuno Lopes trusts will lead to the older students controlling each other.
“What we also do is talk about the control they can do to people outside the committees, without creating hostility: constantly accompany the freshmen, educate those who are practicing and have a positive attitude. In the sessions we did, we saw that people are aware of the impact that their actions can have and that, in itself, is a victory», guaranteed the president of AAUAlg.
Basically, it is a question of “holding responsibility for those who are going to practise” and guaranteeing those who will be punished that they “do what they want” and not what the older students dictate.
Program has lots of music and animation
The usual thing is that, in the end, veterans and freshmen end up having the party, together, in the area of the Freshman Reception. And the offer is wide.
Tomorrow, Thursday, is Tunas night and on Friday the cat-head is Sam the Kid, accompanied by Mundo Segundo. On Saturday, the strong name is Dengaz & Ayha Band, and on Sunday, the party is performed with music by Rúben Filipe.
On Monday Miguel Azevedo performs, on Tuesday night the entertainment is guaranteed by DJ Hugo Miguel and André Salgueiro, on Wednesday, the 23rd, there is a concert by Jaimão and the party ends on the 24th, with Alcoolização dos Perus , with Fábio Lagarto, DJ Mr. Kool and DJ Christian F.
