cavacos beach 2The work at Praia dos Cavacos, in Marim, Olhão, is already finished, and was inaugurated today by Polis Litoral Ria Formosa – Society for the Requalification and Valorization of Ria Formosa.

The Praia dos Cavacos Plan, foreseen in POOC Vilamoura – Vila Real de Santo António and included in the scope of the intervention of Requalification and Enhancement of Ria Formosa, under the responsibility of Sociedade Polis Litoral Ria Formosa, aims to create infrastructure to support the bathing use, on a beach in the interior of the estuary, which has been used by the population for various leisure activities.

Polis Ria Formosa emphasizes that this intervention will allow “a decent use of this stretch of the Ria Formosa riverside, while safeguarding the natural values present, hitherto placed at risk”.

For this, the intervention involved the creation of more than 60 parking spaces, to regularize the unruly occupation of the site by motor vehicles, and the construction of universal, organized and disciplined accesses to the sand, investing in recycled materials, in a space equipped with public lighting and supporting urban furniture.

In addition, the project provides for the installation of urban furniture and equipment associated with the intervention – recreational/sports equipment for different age groups -, public lighting and informational, interpretive and educational signage.

With an investment of around 235 thousand euros, this work was in charge of the company José de Sousa Barra & Filhos Lda, and was financed through the share capital of Polis Litoral Ria Formosa (State component) and community funding from the Operational Program Regional do Algarve (PO Algarve 21), included in the National Strategic Reference Framework (QREN).
