The University of Algarve's Opening Concert for the Academic Year marks the return of the Orquestra Clássica do Sul to artistic activity after the break that marked the month of September. The concert is scheduled for October 3, at 18 pm, at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro.
The show features from opera openings to traditional music, including dances, and will be directed by John Avery, Associate Conductor of the Orchestra.
Counting on the organization of the University of Algarve and the support of the Municipal Theater of Faro, this is an event aimed not only at the academic community, but also at the general public, with free admission, but limited to the capacity of the room.
On the 10th, the Orquestra Clássica do Sul reunites on stage Vitorino and Janita Salomé and the group of Cantadores de Redondo, for the show “Clássico EnCante”, directed by the principal conductor Rui Pinheiro.
This format, which mixes Alentejo cante, traditional music and classical orchestra, is now presented in Lisbon at 21 pm, in the Caixa Geral de Depósitos headquarters building (in the central atrium).
“Clássico EnCante” had its world premiere in August this year, in two concerts included in the Festival Caixa a Sul, in Redondo and in Faro.
Admission to this show, with the sponsorship of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, is free but limited to the capacity of the space, requiring the presentation of an invitation, which must be requested through the e-mail [email protected].
The October program will also present the Orchestra at the Igreja Matriz in Paderne (Albufeira municipality), on the 16th at 21 pm, and on the 30th, at the same time, at the Igreja do Carmo, in Tavira, in concerts with works by Mozart, Gounod and Beethoven, led by Rui Pinheiro.
The same conductor will also conduct the concert “Loulé Classico” on October 23, at 21 pm, at Cineteatro Louletano, with another concert for piano by Beethoven, this time performed by pianist João Bettencourt da Câmara.
Chamber music will mark the end of the month, with the cycle “Clássica na Santa Casa” in Portimão (on the 29th, at 19 pm) and in Faro (on the 30th, at 19 pm).
On the 31st, he will be at the Parochial Center of Pêra, at 18 pm, with a string quartet performing works by Sibelius, Puccini and Glazunov, and at the Sagres Fortress, on the same day at 00 pm, as part of the DiVaM program – Dynamização e Valorização dos Monuments, promoted by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, for a concert under the theme “17th century wind quintets” featuring works by LeFebvre, Barber and Hindemith.
