The Super-Moon of 29 August, despite its beauty, has also brought some upheavals to the Algarve, in the riverside areas and on the beaches. The Super-Moon is also responsible for spring tides that have flooded areas closer to the sea at high tide, namely in Ferragudo and Tavira.

This time, the usual spring tides caused by the Super-Moon coincided with the Levante, with a southeast swell, which he ate the sandy beaches, reaching concession areas and even parking lots, as can be seen in the photos.

The August 29 Super-Moon is the first of three this year. The rest will be on the 28th of September and the 27th of October.

Bruno Gonçalves, environmental engineer and responsible amateur meteorologist by the Meteophons website, explained to Sul Informação that “the moon is now close to the perigee, that is, the point of its orbit closest to the Earth. Coinciding with the full moon, the tides tend to be the highest».

O Hydrographic Institute explains that «generally, the tidal ranges in mainland Portugal are around 1,5 m. That is, the sea rises and falls 1,5m in relation to the average level».

Today, added Bruno Gonçalves, "we will have big tides, but slightly smaller than yesterday's, starting to decrease on Wednesday", as the Moon advances in the waning quarter phase.

This Tuesday, September 1st, the first high tide (high tide) was at 05:02 am (Faro), reaching 3,59 meters, with the other high tide at 17:24 pm, even higher (3,71 m).
