antonioRamosRoseThe António Ramos Rosa National Poetry Award will have its fifth edition this year. The distinction, which is a tribute to the poet from Farense who gives its name to the award, was awarded for the first time in 1999 and was awarded again in 2001, 2007 and 2009. This is the first edition since his death of the poet.

The award “seeks to promote the emergence of new poets, but also to recognize the work of those already established”.

According to the Chamber of Faro, which promotes the initiative, «in every edition there were more than 50 works in the competition, having been awarded to poets of recognized literary excellence such as Fernando Echevarria, Fernando Guimarães, Nuno Júdice and João Rui de Sousa».

The winner of the António Ramos Rosa National Poetry Prize receives 5 thousand euros, with the distinction being highly sponsored by the Fundação Milénio BCP, and with the support of Delta Cafés, ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, Turismo de Portugal, Hotel Faro, Tertúlia Algarvia and Jornal de Letras, Artes e Ideias.

The jury will be composed of Gastão Cruz (poet and essayist), Pedro Ferré (Vice-Rector of the University of Algarve) and António Carlos Cortez (literary critic).

The deadline for the submission of works is December 31, 2015 and the award ceremony is scheduled for April 23, 2016, the anniversary day of the Municipal Library of Faro Antonio Ramos Rosa.
