Two tons of cockles await guests at the Festival in Figueira

Pasta, cockle rice, cockle porridge or cockle patties, as well as this natural bivalve are just some of the gastronomic proposals of another edition, the 13th, of the Figueira Cockle Festival, which takes place on the weekend of 12 and September 13 at the Polidesportivo in this town in the parish of Mexilhoeira Grande, in Portimão.

This tasty bivalve, «traditionally made in a simple way», appears at this event in the most diverse forms, always based on a little olive oil, a sprig of parsley or coriander and a clove of garlic.

Local music will provide entertainment for everyone to dance, and on the first day includes performances by the Duo Musical Ritmo Jovem and the show Tiago Neto and Paulo Fragoso, while the next day, after the performance of João Paulo Cavaco, the music The traditional group will be in charge of the Grupo de Cantares Brasa Doirada, with a performance by Cante Alentejano that promises to delight the public.

Figueira has been organizing the Cockle Festival for 13 consecutive years, honoring the special place that this shellfish has in its heart, as the collection of cockles in the Ria de Alvor dates back well beyond antiquity, and this business has supported many local families in bygone times. .

The event will take place between 19:00 pm and 01:00 am and entry continues to cost 3 euros, including a cockle saucer, organized by Sociedade Recreativa Figueirense, with the support of the Municipality of Portimão, Parish Council of Mexilhoeira Grande.
