Strike Nurses_Hospital Faro_Nov 2014_1The Algarve delegation of the Portuguese Nurses Union accused this Wednesday the ARS Algarve of being "unjustly enriched, at the expense of the nurses" coordinators of the health units, to whom it owes "thousands of euros", for lack of payment of the remuneration supplement to which they are entitled. The ARS responded to the accusations and says that the salary adjustment is in "procedure".

According to the SEP, the ARS Algarve is about to «formally appoint [the coordinating nurses] since the Ordinance that regulates the Departments of Nursing was issued in August 2013» and the entity «assumed the commitment with the SEP on the 27th of March of this year ( days before the visit of the Parliamentary Health Commission to the Algarve), that the appointment of nurses in director and head functions in the units would be for days, but so far nothing has happened».

The Union says that "nurses have always responsibly exercised their functions inherent to the leadership in the different units, for the benefit of the organization of care, without the ARS formally recognizing them".

In a statement sent to the newsrooms, ARS Algarve clarifies that "all nursing heads and respective nursing directors of the three Health Center Groupings (ACES) in the Region have already been duly appointed, and the corresponding remuneration update is in progress".

The entity also adds, in the same note, “that the remuneration update in question of the elements that constitute the nursing directorates of the ACES and the respective heads of nursing was immediately included in the Budget for 2015 of the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve. As for the rest, representatives of the Union of Portuguese Nurses had been informed at a meeting held on March 27th».
