MSG4_FirstImage_lowRes2The latest European weather satellite, MSG-4, launched into space on 15 July, distributed its first image of the Earth's disk on 4 August at 10:00 UTC, announced the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere ( IPMA).

This satellite completes the series of four European geostationary weather satellites called the Second Generation Meteosat, the first of which was launched in 2002.

With 12 spectral channels, these satellites provide images of the terrestrial disk every 15 minutes.

This image corresponds to a composite of images of 3 of its spectral channels located in the visible band (1.6, 0.8 and 0.6 µm).
