With this initiative, the Parish Council of Portimão intends to “honor the musician and the man who contributed so much to honoring the name of Portimão and its citizens”.

João César, was born in Portimão, on April 14, 1943. He began playing solo at the age of 16, and also in musical groups, performing in hotels and ballrooms all over the country.

According to the Parish Council of Portimo, João César, a self-taught musician, is «considered an icon of music in the Algarve». The artist «composed music for the popular marches in Lisbon, Portimão and other places and was an accompanying musician for Mariette Pessanha, Fernanda Baptista and Simone de Oliveira, among other artists».

João Cesar died on November 6, 2013.

The event is organized by the Parish Council of Portimão, in partnership with Alvor FM.
