Inpatient Pediatrics at the Hospital de Faro it has a «new face and “lavadinha”»

Pediatrics faro (3) (Small)Children who have to go through the pediatric hospitalization of the Hospital de Faro they now have conditions for a more comfortable stay. The requalification of the service is complete and the renovated space was inaugurated this Friday by the Secretary of State for Health Manuel Teixeira.

The works, which cost around 300 euros, were financed mostly by the EDP Foundation's Pediatric Support Program and co-funded by the Algarve Hospital Center (CHA). Pediatric hospitalization has become a more modern and humane space.

“There is a greater humanization of space, with more comfort, more safety and more hygiene. In professional terms, the work is done as it was done, but now in a more comfortable way», he explained to Sul Informação the service director José Maio.

Pediatrics faro (1) (Small)The main changes were listed by the doctor: «air conditioning was lacking, it is mandatory in the Algarve. All the walls have been painted, the floors are new, the bathrooms are new, the ceilings are new, as are the piping and plumbing. This was a more physical work that gives the internment a new, “washed” face. Anyone who sees the space now doesn't realize that we've been here since 1980. It's a 35-year-old service, but now it seems that it started working a few days ago», congratulated José Maio.

The privacy of teenagers is also now more safeguarded and “the spectacle of fans in the service, often bought by the parents of patients, when our stock was exhausted” has disappeared.
The president of CHA Pedro Nunes also welcomed the work, which gives “another quality, within the internment. The beauty of the service counts a lot, joy counts a lot even for the sick. It is different for children to be housed in a modern, clean, beautiful, well-painted place, with air conditioning, good beds and good equipment than to be housed in a building built in 1979, with its own degradation of cork floors, wood on the walls , with the obsolete paintings. It is a very significant advantage».

For his part, the Secretary of State for Health assumed that this requalification was “very much needed. And now it's done. It's a good work among many good works that are being done [at CHA]», he praised.

Manuel Teixeira added that “the effort is visible. The image we had, with a large amount of stretchers in the corridors disappeared, we worked on and the result is visible».
