Works stopped on EN125The last step towards the renegotiation of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) contract for the requalification of the EN125 was taken at today's Council of Ministers, Thursday, with the authorization granted to Infrastructures of Portugal to «redefine the scope of the integrated works in the sub-concession contract, under a public-private partnership regime, of the conception, project, other works of requalification, financing, exploration and conservation of the itineraries».

The Rotas do Algarve Litoral sub-concession was one of the six covered by this decision, together with the sub-concessions of the Baixo Alentejo, Baixo Tejo, Pinhal Interior, Litoral Oeste and Douro Interior motorways.

"This is the last step of the negotiation process in the scope of the road PPP, with the revision of the contracts related to those six sub-concessions, this after, as is public, the nine processes related to the road concessions have already been closed", announced the Council of Ministers in a communiqué.

According to the members of the Government, the renegotiation of the road PPP will allow "a reduction in the future gross charges estimated at 7,35 billion euros over the remaining term of the respective contracts, thus alleviating the effort of Portuguese taxpayers".

In addition to the claimed savings, it was following this renegotiation that work on the EN125, which had been stopped for years, resumed, albeit only in Barlavento, as work on the section of this road between Olhão and Vila Real de Santo António became the responsibility of Infraestruturas de Portugal and are not yet on the ground.
