Many weapons, some of them of war caliber, more than 50 cannabis plants and almost two kilos of dried leaves of this illegal plant were seized from a couple in an isolated area of São Bartolomeu de Messines this Thursday. The two suspects were eventually detained.
Illegal weapons and drugs were discovered in an operation prompted by an investigation that lasted a few months. The GNR searched the house of the detained man and woman, aged 51 and 53, on the land where the 52 seized cannabis plants were planted. In the room, more drugs and an authentic arsenal were discovered.
As far as weapons are concerned, «a semi-automatic HK rifle, NATO caliber, with a corresponding magazine and ammunition (weapon only used by the Armed Forces), a large-caliber carbine as well as a telescopic sight belonging to it, two shotgun rifles, were discovered, a mauser rifle with saber and bayonet, a crossbow with eight ferrules, an alarm revolver, a Taser, a Gas Pepper spray, eight bladed weapons and various ammunition, including a caliber of war».
The military also seized the 52 cannabis plants «with measures up to 2,5 meters», 1896 grams of dried cannabis leaves, 42 grams of cannabis seeds, a precision digital scale, an alembic, 62 bottles of alcohol (medronho) , 28 solar panels and 410 euros.
The material that was taken, related to the arbutus, was found in an illegal distillery that operated on the property, which was dismantled by the military of the GNR Criminal Investigation Center in Silvess, supported by the Special Operations Intervention Group of the GNR Intervention Unit , by the Intervention Detachment of Faro and the Detachment of Tax Action of Faro.
