QuarteiraThe water supply in Quarteira is "practically normalized", only now affecting "some apartments on the highest floors of the buildings", assured councilor Pedro Oliveira in statements to Sul Informação.

lack of water reached a large part of the city of Quarteira since yesterday, around 19:00, until about midnight, due to an electrical failure in the supply system. However, technicians from the Municipality of Loulé were able to temporarily resolve the problem, restoring the functioning of two of the three pumps, explained the councilor with the responsibility for Water Supply.

Pedro Oliveira admitted that the situation "affected a lot of people, because, at this time of year, Quarteira is full", adding that the picket received "close to 60 calls from people asking what was going on".

Also the Sul Informação was alerted to the lack of water in what is one of the main seaside resorts in the Algarve through emails, facebook messages and sms sent by readers, residents or vacationers in that city.

The councilor added that the Loulé Council has already asked the company Águas do Algarve, despite being Saturday, to increase the water supply to the tank that supplies Quarteira, in order to restore the level.

Pedro Oliveira explained to our newspaper that the failure was due to "an electrical problem that caused the three pumps to stop and then start to work dry and run off."

The mayor added that, on Monday, «we will have the company that assembled the electrical part there, so that, in the future, there is a way to indicate that, if the water in the tank is low, it is because there is a breakdown, that there is to be detected in time. Let's do a thorough examination of the electrical and electronic equipment and see what happened».
