PhysiciansFrom today, July 1st, the status of the Lauroé, Loulé, and Albufeira Family Health Units will change their status, which, from the outset, allows for the attribution of a family doctor to around 2700 users, 1500 in Loulé and 1200 in Albufeira.

This change also guarantees the possibility of extending the activities provided for in the prevention and health promotion programs.

The Algarve Regional Health Administration (ARS) explains that those USF “transit from Model A to Model B, following Order No. 6580-A/2015 of the Office of the Minister of State and Finance and the Minister of Health, which sets the maximum number of Family Health Units (USF) to be set up in 2015 and determines the maximum number of USF that move from Model A to Model B».

The change, underlines the ARS, “will constitute an asset for the population covered by these USF and contribute to obtaining gains in health”.

The USF Lauroé, functional unit of ACES Central, located in the municipality of Loulé, is made up of a team of six doctors, six nurses and five technical assistants, currently covering a total of 9900 users.

The USF Albufeira, also included in the same ACES Central, is made up of five doctors, five nurses and four technical assistants, and has around 8300 users.

The Board of Directors of the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve approved the transition of the USF Lauroé and USF Albufeira from Model A to Model B, «based on the technical opinions of the Regional Support and Monitoring Team of ARS Algarve, of the president of the Clinical Council of ACES Central and following the analysis of the organizational assessment tool DiOr_USF of ACSS, as well as the review of the results obtained in the indicators contained in the respective 2014 commitment letter, which prove the good performance of the teams in these units».

According to the Central Administration of the Health System, Model B «is suitable for teams with greater organizational maturity where family health teamwork is an effective practice and that are willing to accept a contractual level of performance levels more demanding'.

There are currently nine Family Health Units in operation in the Algarve Region, five of them in Model B.
