Conductor and pianist Rui Massena starts the cycle of concerts for “Summer in Tavira” on July 18, at 22 pm, in the Palácio da Galeria park.

Rui Massena, a well-known figure in the national cultural panorama, helped transform Guimarães 2012 – European Capital of Culture into a success story. The same happened with the Orquestra Clássica da Madeira, where he was conductor and artistic director for 12 years.

Outside the country, his presence in many concerts stands out, as well as the fact that he was the main guest conductor of the Symphonic Orchestra of Rome (between 2009 – 2011) and the first Portuguese conductor to conduct the mythical Carnegie Hall room, in Nova York.

At the national level, he embarked body and soul on the project Expensive Soul Symphonic Experience, a show where a classical orchestra found space alongside the modern hip hop from Expensive Soul and which yielded a successful DVD (the best seller in Portugal in 2012).

Rui Massena is now preparing for a new challenge: exchanging the baton for the keys of a piano, the orchestra's resources for his own vision as a composer. A stage, a piano and a man. A story, several awards and a unique artistic path. All together in a unique show.

The “Summer in Tavira” also hosts Ana Moura (July 29), Clã (August 6) and Pedro Abrunhosa and Committee Caviar (August 21).

Tickets cost 18 euros and are on sale at the Tavira City Hall reception, at the information stand in Praça da República and at the online ticket office.
