This Thursday, the municipality signed a protocol with the Associação Animals de Rua, with the aim of achieving this end by the end of 2015, based on the principles of Capture-Sterilize-Return (CED).

According to the Chamber, "with this protocol, these entities intend to reduce or even end the proliferation of the number of wild or wild cats in the county." The action has already started, having already been sterilized 50 wild or wild cats, from seven colonies in the municipality of Monchique.

«In addition to issues related to public health, it is intended in this way to substantially reduce the annoyances caused by mating cries, fights and smells resulting from the marking of territory, at the same time keeping the animals in the important role of controlling the rodent population », refers the local authority in a note sent to the newsrooms.

In addition to reducing the number of animals on the streets and population control, the municipality also highlights that the initiative "mobilizes voluntary actions and enhances the reception and adoption of these animals".

The protocol also provides for the collection and sterilization of domestic animals "belonging to people with serious proven economic needs and who, in this way, can have medical and veterinary support for their pets".

The protocol was signed in the Hall of Hall of the City Hall between the mayor Rui André and the president of the Animal Street Association, Maria Pinto Teixeira, and the representative of the Lagos Delegation of the Association and the veterinarian of the Chamber of Monchique Ana Silva.
