newbornBabies born in public maternity hospitals in the Algarve are, since the 20th of July, immediately registered in the National Register of Users (RNU), through the new functionality “Nascer Utente”.

This means that, after being registered at the Institute of Registries and Notaries (IRN), within the scope of the “Nascer Cidadão” project, newborns are registered, while still in the maternity ward, in the National Health Service, holding their own numbers. user and automatically enrolled in the respective health centres.

The “Nascer Utente” functionality thus allows the health system to “know” its users at birth.

According to the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve, this even makes it possible to associate babies «automatically with the mother's family doctor, in an agile and facilitating process for parents who leave the hospital with their children already registered with the National Health Service».
