New Facilities Regional Directorate of CultureThe Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve (DRCultAlg) is changing its premises, starting to operate, from next Monday, in the building in the Penha area, in Faro, which previously housed the extinct Regional Directorate of Economy.

To complete the process, on July 15th, DRCultAlg signed a protocol for the transfer of facilities with the General Directorate of Energy and Geology, which allowed for the ongoing change.

The change project, the regional director of Culture told the Sul Informação, «had several interlocutors and various spaces designed over a few years».

In all cases, «there were always several constraints related to issues of ownership, the need to invest in voluminous works, the compatibility of different uses and the adequacy of facilities and accessibility that made the options unfeasible and that were discussed with local entities and regional'.

Despite the work involved in moving, as it is necessary to “box, pack and carry everything”, Alexandra Rodrigues Gonçalves points out that the new facilities have many “positive points”, starting with the abundance of parking.

«On the one hand, we are no longer in downtown Faro, which can have some impact, changing it to a slightly marginal location. But for us and even for those who come to our services, especially those who come from outside Faro, the new installations have parking», which was difficult to find in the previous installations, in a street behind the Teatro Lethes.

On the other hand, it becomes possible to «concentrate the entire team of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve on a single floor, favoring a better articulation between services and teamwork».

The new facilities will also allow “to organize public access to the Library and to the collection of the Regional Directorate”, since, underlines Alexandra Gonçalves, “we will have space for a room to be used by those who want to consult a book from the library”. There will also be a better organization of document archives.

Another important aspect will be “the creation, in the cellars, of an archaeological reserve area”, namely to keep “the archaeological assets of the monuments” under the supervision of the Regional Directorate of Culture.

On the other hand, taking into account that the building also houses the services of the General Directorate of Energy and Geology, IAPMEI and ASAE, there will be a «cost reduction associated with sharing with other entities that carry out their activities there».

One of the advantages will be the fact that DRCultAlg will now have access to an auditorium and training rooms, shared by all services installed in the buildings.

Due to the change of facilities, today and tomorrow, on the 30th and 31st of July, there will be no telephone and public assistance provided by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.

«The change itself is already being made, but we need these days for the change of computer and telecommunications networks», explained director Alexandra Gonçalves.

All so that, as of Monday, August 3rd, those services will already be at their new address, at Rua Prof. António Pinheiro e Rosa, 1, 8005-546 Faro.

During the next week, from 3 to 7 August, the preferred contact with that entity should be via email [email protected].

Between 1991 and 2007, the Algarve Regional Delegation of the Secretary of State for Culture (as designated at the time) was located in the building of the current Teatro Lethes – Colégio de Santiago Maior -, classified as a Property of Public Interest.

In recent years, and since 2007 was decided to leave the Teatro Lethes building, the current Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve has been installed on two floors of a residential building on Rua Francisco Horta, at the back of Lethes, in Faro.

The commitment to find "an alternative to the current facilities", assumed as "one of the priorities of this Regional Directorate", dates from 16 December 2013. The objective was to identify facilities that would allow "a better response to the needs of employees and the public mission to which this regional entity of Culture has to respond».
