Untitled-3Camané and Marafona (Portugal), Paulo Flores (Angola), Amparo Sanchez (Spain), Chico Trujillo (Chile) and Dino D'Santiago (Portugal/Cape Verde) are the names of the poster of the Festival Sons do Atlântico 2015 on his return to Senhora da Rocha, in Porches, between the 13th and 15th of August.

After last year, for safety reasons at the Nossa Senhora da Rocha Promontory, the Festival headed to Angrinha beach, in Ferragudo, from where it had to leave because of bad weather, ending up taking place at the Pavilhão do Arade, in 2015 the Festival returns to its place of origin and takes place again in August.

The opening show, on the 13th, will be in charge of Dino D'Santiago, winner of the Cape Verde Music Awards in 2014, in the categories of Best Batuku/Kola Sanjon and Best Acoustic Album.

On the same day, Amparo Sanchez, the voice of the legendary Amparonoia, presents her new solo album “Espiritu del Sol” in our country, where she also sings Mano Negra and Chavela Vargas.

On Friday the 14th, Chile will be present with the performance of Chico Trujillo, a pioneer in the revitalization of Cumbia Chilena, better known as Nova Cumbia.

Then, Marafona brings the mix of traditional Portuguese instruments.

The last day of the Festival will feature Camané, celebrating 20 years of his recording career.

This is followed by Paulo Flores, the biggest name in Angolan music, who closes “Sons do Atlântico 2015”, performing for the first time in the Algarve.

 

The Artists:

Dino d'Santiago

Dino D'Santiago was born 30 years ago in Quarteira, Algarve. In 2003 he became a finalist in Operation Triunfo, after which he definitely embraced music.
was part of jaguar band of Expensive Soul, released his first solo album in 2008, with Virgul (Da Weasel) founded nu soul family, a project that won the MTV award in the category of Portuguese Best Act, 2010.
Later, in search of his roots, he traveled to “his” Santiago Island, in Cape Verde, where it became clear that his path would go through joining the warm African sounds to Fado, in a singular fusion, with the musician assuming a new artistic name: Dino d' Santiago, in the form of a tribute and exaltation to his parents, his ancestors and all those who enrich his heritage.
Cape Verdean Creole and Portuguese are the dominant languages, in a perfect blend of unique Lusophone sounds.

Sanchez protection he is a representative of the mestizo movement in Barcelona. After leading the Amparanoia project for 12 years, Amparo Sanchez has worked in the four corners of the world, from Argentina to New Zealand.
His new work “Espírito del Sol” is a journey through the rumba to Latin music, passing through the cadence typical of the desert and the distinct sounds of the Caribbean.
Amparo will perform live with his musicians – Cubano, José Alberto Varona Saavedra on trumpet, Jordi Mestres on bass, Willy Fuego on guitar and Ricard Parera on percussion.
Chico Trujillo is one of the most important orchestras in Chile, formed by Juan Gronemeyer (drums and percussion) Michael Magliocchetti (guitar and voice) Tuto Vargas (bass) Sebastian Cabezas (trumpet) Tio Rodi (percussion) Luis Tabilo (trombone) Felita (saxophone) ) Macha Asenjo (guitar and desperate voice).
The mix of classical cumbia, bolero, Latin American, Balkan and reggae music brought them to audiences from different generations and classes. The band's exuberance represents an acclaimed return to the world of partying, dancing and nightly pleasures.

The irreverent sound of the marafona brings sounds from Portuguese chordophones such as the cavaquinho, the Portuguese guitar, the viola campaniça, “Braganiça”, trazenholas and the bagpipes by Gonçalo Almeida, together with percussions by the Mexican Ian Carlo Mendoza, to the double bass by the Azorean Cláudio Cruz, sublima up on Daniel Sousa's classical guitar topped by the adufe, mouth berimbau and the powerful radiophonic voice of Artur Serra.
Marches, corridinhos, chulas, lullabies, fados, mazurkas are all converted to MP3 by valves, always with a lot of musicality, with a great taste for the word, always with a story in each very Portuguese song.

 

Camane

Camane is one of the great names in Portuguese music. His career began in 1979 when he won the Grande Noite do Fado.
He performs in several fado houses and also participates in some productions by Filipe La Féria, where he stands out.
In 1995 he recorded his first album, followed by a career of consecutive sold-out theaters, won several awards, saw his song “Já Não Estar” (music by José Mário Branco, featured in the soundtrack of “José e Pilar”) pre- selected for the Oscars 2011 and is constantly praised by both national and international critics.
He sang with the Macedonian Philarmonic Orchestra and Metropolitana de Lisboa and has performed in concerts and festivals on several continents. In 2011 he performs at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, in a concert praised by the New York Times.

 

Paulo Flores

Paulo Flores is an author, composer and performer, is one of the main references in Angolan music and a tireless defender of “Semba”, inspired by the urban tradition of Luanda.
Paulo Flores appears, together with Eduardo Paim, in the first line of the crucial movement of African (Lusophone) dance music of urban nature, popularized in Portugal in the 80s, the “Kizomba”.
Born in Luanda, Paulo Flores spent his childhood in Lisbon, with regular trips to Angola. Paulo Flores discovers strong links with the culture of his country, but also with the “Blues”, “Soul” and other genres of Afro-American culture.
In addition to his role in music, Paulo Flores also plays an important social role in supporting the modernization of Angolan music, through collaboration with young Angolan musicians and also in the development of social solidarity actions as the UN Goodwill Ambassador in Angola (since 2007).
