The Algarve was considered, for the second consecutive year, as the best place in the world to enjoy retirement. In a study by the American company Live and Invest Overseas, cited by CNN, the Algarve region comes in first place, with emphasis on the low cost of living, the beach, the golf courses and the ease of communication of a native English speaker.
According to the study, living in the Algarve costs 1410 dollars a month (€1283), less than what would be spent in the United States.
To prepare the ranking, the cost of living and real estate investment, entertainment options, the strength of expatriate communities, healthcare and the logistics of moving were considered.
The fact that there are "more than 100 expatriates in the region, who promoted book exchanges and tennis and volunteer groups" is one of the highlighted factors.
