fire riskThe municipalities of Monchique and Portimão are two of the three municipalities that today, across the country, present a very high risk of fire, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). The third municipality is Mação (Santarém).

The IPMA also placed eight councils in the district of Faro at high risk of fire, as well as Odemira, in the district of Beja, in addition to other 24 municipalities spread across the continent, with incidence in the northern interior.

The remaining map of mainland Portugal is “painted” in yellow and green, colors that reveal that the municipalities are at moderate or reduced risk of fire, respectively.

The fire risk determined by IPMA comprises five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum.

The calculation is based on values observed at 13:00 pm each day, relative to air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

The National Civil Protection Authority (ANPC) registered on Monday 77 fires, which were fought by 1.132 workers, with the support of 318 vehicles.

Corrected at 13:10 pm, changing the name of the councils with very high risk.
