The 5-star hotel, which is being finished and will open «in this second half of 2015» at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão, will be operated by the Pestana Group, in a partnership between this hotel brand and Parkalgar SA, owner of the circuit .
Pedro Lopes, administrator of the Pestana Group in the Algarve, revealed to Sul Informação that the hotel «has potential for 198 rooms, but 75 rooms are now open, with all the complementary spaces, meeting rooms, common areas, indoor and outdoor swimming pool, spa, etc».
The reason for this phased opening has to do with the fact that, next to the hotel, in a high area of the racecourse complex, overlooking the circuit, the sea and the Monchique mountains, there are also 170 4-star apartments already available. , which will also be managed by the Pestana Group.
For his part, Paulo Pinheiro, CEO of Parkalgar, recalled, in an interview with Sul Informação, that the construction of the hotel represents an investment of 10 million euros and will create 30 permanent jobs, in a first phase.
“The hotel is one of the missing stones to complete this entire Autodromo complex”, he stressed.
Although Paulo Pinheiro mentioned the month of July as the probable date for the opening of the newest 5-star in the Algarve, Pedro Lopes is more cautious: «the works are at cruising speed, but there is still a need to decorate, finish the gardens. It will certainly open this year, in the second half, but it is premature to advance a date», admitted the administrator of Grupo Pestana.
And who is this new hotel for? «In the many events that the Autodromo hosts throughout the year, people have to go to Vilamoura or Quinta do Lago to sleep.. But now they can also stay here», explained Pedro Lopes.
On the other hand, he added, there were events that the Autodromo missed because it was unable to host them on its own premises. "But now we will have a large hall, which can accommodate four or five cars inside, for example for the world presentation of a new model."
The hotel “strengthens the Autodromo even more, it's like the Disney park and the hotel in the park”, added Pedro Lopes.
It was, in the end, the missing piece. «The Autodromo complex already has the kart track, it already has the apartments, it has a potential technological park. The hotel was the key missing piece», concludes Grupo Pestana's administrator.
