The Guadiana Space in Alcoutim was inaugurated this Tuesday with a sold out capacity to watch the presentation of the play “Auto da Barca do Inferno” by Teatro Experimental de Alcoutim and the performance of Pedro Mestre.
Jorge Botelho, president of the AMAL Intermunicipal Council, David Santos, president of CCDR Algarve and Alexandra Gonçalves, the regional director of Culture of the Algarve were present and, according to the Alcoutim Chamber, «congratulated the Alcouteneja autarchy for the construction of this new equipment that aims to essentially the diversification in the offer of cultural and leisure activities, thus also attracting more visitors to the county and contributing to the fixation of the population, eager for cultural spaces, as proved by the influx of public to the event».
The Mayor, Osvaldo Gonçalves, stressed that the designation “Espaço Guadiana” is “a very fair tribute to what many define, and with all rationality, as the great river of the South, our river Guadiana”.
The mayor also recalled the importance of the Guadiana for the settlement of the population in the Municipality of Alcoutim, as well as its contribution to the construction of the Alcouteneja identity. «It is this cultural identity that, today and always, we want to see reflected in this space», considered the mayor.
Osvaldo Gonçalves also said that he intends “that the Guadiana Space is, primarily, a space for the promotion and dissemination of the culture and identity of our community, as well as the work of local artists and those who, not belonging to the municipality, manage to establish relationships of belonging with our identity».
