guadalupe hermitage4The Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, in Vila do Bispo, will travel back in time, from tomorrow until July 5th, until the time of the navigators, with the exhibition of sculpture by Gustavo Jesus “Cordame, melancholia e caramel”.

The opening is scheduled for 17:00 pm, followed by a musical performance by Hilaria Kramer (trumpet) and Gil Maddalena, at 17:30 pm.

Both initiatives are part of the DiVaM program – Dynamization and Valorization of Monuments and are organized by Tertúlia- Associação Sócio Cultural de Aljezur, in partnership with the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.

Susana de Medeiros, from Associação Tertúlia, in an interview with the program Impressões da RUA FM/Sul Informação, revealed a little of what this exhibition by Gustavo Jesus will be.

«He picked up on the memories of navigation, comings and goings to Brazil, and among the themes that interested him, was sugarcane and its introduction in Europe. His pieces will allude to knots used in navigation, to sails, to the trade that takes place on the caravels…».expo Gustavo J JUNE 13 invitation other

For the first time in the exhibition cycle 2 or 3×7, in which this exhibition is part, «the pieces of sculpture will also be installed outside the church. There will be works installed inside and outside», said the person in charge of Tertúlia.

Among the materials used by Gustavo Jesus are wood, rope and fabric, and his installation, according to the Regional Directorate of Culture, "dialogues with space."

In these, Gustavo Jesus “evokes a link between devotion and faith and the unknown, so present at the time of departure, the seas and the fears that navigation aroused, the uncertainties in the minds of the men who left and the rituals of worship, translations of experiences from other times».

In the exhibition cycle 2 or 3×7, which began in April and continues until October at the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe (Raposeira), seven plastic artists – through drawing, painting, sculpture and/or installation – are invited to intervene temporarily in this space.invitation musical performance June 13 17:30 pm

Susana de Medeiros explains that «there are artists who only develop projects that have to do with the issue of place, and then build the work. Here, the challenge is to invite these artists, from that very specific space, with a very specific memory, not only in the hermitage, but in the entire surrounding area, to be inspired by what they find most interesting».

At 17:30 pm it's time for the song to “invade” the Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe with the performance of Hilária Kramer and Gil Madallena. Hilária Kramer “is a trumpeter who is very well known on the jazz circuits in Switzerland and, in general, in German-speaking countries, but little known in Portugal. He has been giving concerts in chapels and hermitages in southern Switzerland. In 2014, he won the award for best jazz musician in Switzerland (Suiss Jazz Award)», says the Regional Directorate of Culture.

Gil Madalena, who will accompany H. Kramer with other instruments, «is a visual artist and bases his artistic career on capturing emotions, in landscapes, waves or portraits. Among other projects, he collaborates with Rémi Gallet, a professional musician, on a project that involves a performative action with drawing and music».
