The Municipal Fire Department of Olhão reinforced the Municipal Protection and Relief device during the months of July, August and September, at the same time as it will test two new features: a Logistics Support Team and the Pre-Hospital Brigade.
Thus, during the Charlie Phase, between the 1st of July and the 30th of September, the most critical time for forest fires, the Municipal Fire Department of Olhão will have a Brigade especially dedicated to attacking forest fires, consisting of two combat vehicles and a support vehicle, totaling 12 men 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as part of the Special Device for Combating Forest Fires (DECIF) of the National Civil Protection Authority.
In Moncarapacho, a team of five firefighters and a combat vehicle will be pre-positioned, with the aim of achieving greater efficiency in the initial attack on fires in parishes farther from the county seat.
The team will be installed daily in the parish and, according to the daily operational management, will have the support of Casa do Povo and the Red Cross of Moncarapacho.
Armona Island Detachment
On the Island of Armona, two firefighters will be on duty during the day, in order to guarantee protection and help, in July and August, and in accordance with the daily operational management.
In order to provide an efficient response in the Pre-Hospital Emergency, the Fire Department will be reinforced, with the support of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), provided by INEM.
«This equipment will be an asset in a place with the inherent vicissitudes of being on an island», stresses the City Council of Olhão.
Logistics Team for Operations Support
Over the next three months, the Fire Department will also test the operation of the new logistical team that will support the protection and relief operations in the Municipality of Olhão, consisting of two support vehicles and up to five firefighters.
This new project aims to provide the necessary conditions to sustain relief operations, having the capacity to supply 50 workers, thus eliminating a shortage seen in the past.
It may in the future be extended to other areas, including rest and physical and psychological recovery of the Fire Department.
Pre-Hospital Emergency Brigade
In July, August and September, the Fire Department will operationalize a new Pre-Hospital Emergency Brigade, to provide an "even more efficient and with great versatility, mobility and autonomy" response to serious accidents or catastrophes, namely with multi-victims .
This Brigade will consist of 12 properly equipped and trained firefighters, three vehicles and a trailer.
This configuration can be increased according to the scenario, with all the necessary equipment to reinforce the theaters of operations in the initial moments of the incidents.
This team has already carried out its first operational test in the accident on June 17, on the A22, involving a bus, having been integrated into the reinforcement group, in a total of 31 firefighters and 12 vehicles (seven ambulances and five support vehicles) .
