The play “Auto da Barca do Inferno”, by Gil Vicente, will go on stage at Espaço Guadiana, in Alcoutim, on June 9th at 21 pm. The presentation of the work, by TEA – Teatro Experimental de Alcoutim, is integrated in the program of the opening ceremony of this multipurpose space.
Gil Vicente's work is the first part of the so-called Trilogia das Barcas (Auto do Purgatório and Auto da Barca da Glória). The plot is set in an imaginary port, where two boats are anchored: one commanded by
an angel destined for heaven, and another headed by the devil towards hell.
All souls, as soon as they detach themselves from their bodies, are forced to pass through this place to be judged. Depending on the acts committed in life, they are condemned to the boat of glorification or the boat of hell. Both the angel and the devil can accuse souls, but only the angel has the power of absolution.
Directed by Francisco Braz, the actors Bruno Barão, Ricardo Faustino, Angela Correia, Francisco Braz, Andreia Cipriano, Filipe Ribeiros, Carolina Ribeiros, Nelson Fernandes, Joaquina Valério, Paulo Ribeiros, Joana Cavaco, will give life to the characters of this play by Gil Vicente. Lourdes Palma, José Cavaco and Bruno Xavier.
The show is organized by the Municipality of Alcoutim and has free admission.
