Aljezur3Aljezur, Monchique, Vila do Bispo and Vila Real de Santo António are the four Algarve municipalities finalists for the 2015 Municipality of the Year Awards.

Aljezur was nominated for the “Historical-Cultural and Environmental Circuit of Aljezur” project, Monchique for the “Casas sem Fogo” project, Vila do Bispo due to the “Sagres Bird Watching & Nature Activities Festival” and Vila Real de Santo António thanks to the creation of “AGARRA – Agency for Combating the Crisis”.

Promoted by the University of Minho, the “Municipality of the Year Portugal 2015” Awards aim, namely, to recognize and reward good practices in projects implemented by municipalities with significant impacts on the territory, economy and society, which promote growth, inclusion and/or sustainability.

Prizes will be awarded in each regional category, one of which being selected for the national prize.

The winning municipalities in each category as well as the national winner will be known at the Awards Ceremony, which will take place on the 9th of July, at 17:30 pm, at Teatro Circo, in Braga.

Last year, Tavira was considered the Municipality of the Year in the Algarve and won a national honorable mention, thanks to the “Mediterranean Diet – Tavira Representative City” project.
