The Senior University of the Municipality of Alcoutim will be born from a collaboration between the Municipal Council, the Group of Schools of the Municipality of Alcoutim, the Alcance association, and the Cooperative of Teaching and Vocational Training of Alengarve.
The protocol to establish forms of cooperation between these entities has already been signed by the president of the Chamber Osvaldo Gonçalves, and also by António da Costa Amorim (director of the Group), José Manuel Baltazar Simão (president of Alcance), and Mário José Santos Tomé, ( Teaching Cooperative).
The Senior University of Alcoutim has in its training, «the conviction of the importance of creating activities that value seniors and their knowledge, knowledge and experiences, in order to proactively face the aging process as another stage of life»?, highlights the municipality of Alcoutim.
Citizens over 50 years of age will now have "the real opportunity to participate in education for citizenship, for health, for human development and for lifelong training".
The ambition is to «progressively, with this social response, captivate a greater number of seniors in the territory, providing all those who wish to be part of this “university community” the possibility of feeling increasingly useful, active, healthy, creative , informed, valued and happy».
The University operates in Alcoutim, at the Centro de Artes e Ofícios, and in Martim Longo, at Escola Prof. Joaquim Moreira, in Pereiro, Giões, Vaqueiros, Barrada, Laranjeiras, Santa Justa, Guerreiros do Rio and Pessegueiro.
Enrollment at the Senior University of Alcoutim is free and classes are held from Monday to Friday.
