Signature of protocol between OE and FE of UalgEconomists have a social responsibility, "which they must not escape". And this involves entering into partnerships, such as the protocol signed this Wednesday between the Algarve regional delegation of the Portuguese Economists and the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve, and putting its resources at the service of society.

Among the responsibilities that the OE assumes is the promotion of youth employment. With the signing of this agreement, students from the Algarve university will have access to an already established network, which can open doors for them.

«The Economists Order has a job exchange and a networking system that can help recent graduates to integrate the labor market», explained the president of the Algarve delegation of OE Pedro Pimpão, adding that this agreement will facilitate, for example , access to stages within the network.

The protocol also foresees the holding of joint events, by the two entities, and the use of the connections of the Order of Economists, with its European counterparts, «to build a bridge with foreign universities, so that new partnerships can emerge and collaborative projects», between academies.

One of the roles that both the Order and the Faculty of Economics at UAlg seem determined to play is the dissemination of the work of economists and greater interaction with society in general.

Francisco Murteira Nabo: “It is more than proven that austerity was a model that was not successful”

Not least because, stressed the director of FE/UAlg Rui Nunes, the crisis that still affects us has ended up «deteriorating the image of economists» among the population in general. “We have to make a very big effort to make ourselves understandable to the common citizen. And, at the same time, make it clear that, within the class, there are people with very different ideas», defended Rui Nunes.

For the rest, the FE/UAlg and the Order did not take long to embody what was agreed and to promote economic science. Less than an hour after the session in which they officially became partners, the two entities held a conference, where the Guidelines for a Regional Economic Model were presented, the result of work carried out by seven economists in the region, namely Adriano Pimpão, Hélio Barros, João Calçada Correia, Paulo Rodrigues, José Leite Pereira, Francisco Severino and Francisco Mendonça Pinto.

Another very focused issue was the social responsibility that economists have, which, similarly to the promotion of economic science, is assumed to be the main flag of the current direction of the Algarve delegation of the OE. Both sessions were sponsored by the chairman of the General Assembly of the Order of Economists Francisco Murteira Nabo, who was invited to make a succinct analysis of what the future could hold for the world and, of course, for Portugal.

Murteira Nabo, Rui Nunes and Pedro PimpãoThe renowned economists chose four basic themes, in his intervention "about giving back", namely the identification of economic trends of the XNUMXst century, the "European dilemma", a reflection on the current state of the Portuguese economy and another on the Lusophony and the connection of our country to the members of the CPLP.

In his presentation, Murteira Nabo defended, for example, that the European Union, in order to avoid disintegration, will have to come closer to the values it had in its genesis, the “solidarity and economic promotion of its members”.

As for the state of the Portuguese economy, Murteira Nabo stated that "it is more than proven that austerity was a model that was not successful", if you look at the economic aspect, as it was imposed for too long, leaving the economic fabric very debilitated. “Economics is not the same thing as Finance. The latter recover quickly, the economy does not, it takes a long time», he summed up.
