olive groveThe Municipality of Silves has already provisionally received the work for the recovery and environmental enhancement of the mouth of the Vale do Olival stream, in Armação de Pêra.

The intervention, promoted jointly by the Town Councils of Silves and Lagoa, since the river and the valley mark the border between the two municipalities, it contemplated the construction of a pedestrian path, a raised wooden walkway, the planting of riverine species and the construction of two weirs.

This is an intervention with an investment of 100 euros, with 70% of the amount financed outright by the PO Algarve 21 program – Axis 2 – Actions for the Enhancement of the Coast, and the remaining 30% supported by the Municipalities of Silves and Lagoa (15% each).

This application also included the technical execution project for the Nascente Urban Park of Armação de Pêra, on the right bank of the Alcantarilha stream, close to the ex-campo dos Armacenenses (formerly “Estádio das Gaivotas”).

The municipality of Silves adds that, during the work, «new needs were detected, so the Program was asked for a financial reinforcement, with a view to carrying out additional work, such as the execution of a safety fence, the extension of the pedestrian path. to the beach and the repaving of the former minigolf space».

These new interventions, which are in the tender stage, cost around 48.000 euros.

Minimizing the impact of erosion at the mouth of the stream, as well as the environmental impact resulting from the discharge of contaminated rainwater and accidental discharges that occur from the Sewage Pumping Station are the main objectives of the works carried out.
