southwestern writing museumThe Estela do Monte Novo do Visconde, in Castro Verde, an important archaeological find from the Iron Age, with about 2500 years, will be presented to the public at the Southwest Writing Museum, in Almodôvar, at 18 pm on Friday, May 22nd.

This Stela is an isolated Iron Age find, around 2500 years old, and was found in the late 70s near Casével (Castro Verde) and handed over to Caetano Mello Beirão at that time. It is currently in storage at the Caetano Mello Beirão Archeology Center, in Ourique, and that municipality is its faithful depository.

The last time this Estela from Monte Novo do Visconde was exhibited in 1980 at the Museu Nacional de Arqueologia

The stela is representative of one of the nuclei located further north in the territory of Escrita do Sudoeste.

A brief presentation of the stele will be made by Samuel Melro (ESTELA Project/ Regional Directorate of Culture of Alentejo) and Amílcar Guerra (University of Lisbon).
