The motto "Nem + 1 cigarette" will inspire the commemorations of the World No Tobacco Day, which is marked next Sunday, in the municipality of Castro Marim.
To celebrate the date, the municipality will bring together, at a luncheon, the 70 people who have already managed to kick this habit, as part of a program to combat smoking that is being carried out by the municipality.
The most visible aspect of the fight against tobacco consumption, in Castro Marim, are the free smoking cessation consultations that the mayor himself, doctor Francisco Amaral, grants to citizens who request them.
«The adhesion of the citizens to this challenge of a smoke-free life has surpassed our expectations, there are already around 70 who have accepted the challenge and the success rate is around 90 percent», according to Francisco Amaral. Other actions were also carried out, such as the “Smoking is killing you” campaign and some lectures and conferences on the harm of smoking.
“There are decisive decisions in life. It can be getting married, it can be having a child and it is, of course, giving up smoking. It is true that we all die one day, but whoever quits smoking has the possibility of living another 10 to 15 years, with much better quality of life and even greater economic savings», illustrated Francisco Amaral.
