Carlos lopesMarathon runner Carlos Lopes, gold medalist at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984, is the special guest of the 1st Grand Prix Cidade de Quarteira 2015, an event that is part of the City Day celebrations, which takes place on Sunday, May 17, with the seal of “Loulé European City of Sport 2015”.

Starting at 11:00 am, at Praça do Mar, the road race sponsored by Carlos Lopes will be held over a ten-kilometer route, passing through Infante de Sagres, Sá Carneiro, Carlos Mota Pinto and Ceuta avenues.

Open to athletes of both sexes, it will start with an interval of two and a half minutes between the starting signals for women and men.

The organization will award pecuniary prizes individually and by teams, and symbolic prizes will also be given to the three oldest female and male participants.

Entries for the 1st Grand Prix Cidade de Quarteira 2015 have a value of 7,50 euros including the technical t-shirt and can be made through the Algarve Athletics Association).

The 1st Grand Prix Cidade de Quarteira 2015 is promoted in partnership by the Parish Council of Quarteira, Municipality of Loulé and the Algarve Athletics Association, with the support of Quarteira Night Runners.

Within the scope of the 1st Grand Prix Cidade de Quarteira 2015 the “Playing at Athletics” initiative will also take place, starting at 10:00 am, aimed at children aged between 4 and 14 years.

The meeting lasts until 12:00, on the beach next to Praça do Mar, and arises from a partnership between the Parish Council and the Clube Desportivo de Quarteira, with the support of the Municipality of Loulé.

This competition is part of the 'Vamos Brincar ao Atletismo' tournament and aims to promote the sport to younger people, simultaneously involving them in a sporting and social event. The children will be divided into two levels – Benjamins A (from 7 to 9 years old) and Benjamins B (from 10 to 11 years old), developing various modalities that promote their motor development.

As part of the sports program that marks the City Day celebrations, the “Walking Quarteira” initiative will also take place on the 16th, at 17 pm, also from Praça do Mar, which will include a zumba class guided by the resident instructors. in the parish. The event, organized jointly by the Parish Council and Quarteira Night Runners, is open to participants of all ages.
