JAZZ CONCERT_10ABRIL_peqThe Algarve Jazz Orchestra promotes this Friday, April 10th, at 17 pm, at Escola das Artes, in Lagoa, a conference presented by Yuri Daniel, bassist musician, on the theme “Electric Jazz in the 00s: Weather Report & Beyond”.

Also today, but at 21 pm, at Capela do Convento S. José, there will be a concert with the duo “Sax & Bass Talk”, formed by David Paz and Luís Henrique, one of the formations of the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve.

Both events are free to enter.

 

Who are the musicians?

yuri daniel
Born in Brazil in 1966, but since the 80s, when he joined the Hot Clube Jazz School, which resides in Portugal, establishing himself as one of the most interesting and surprising bass players of the new generation of jazz.

Professor at ESTAL since 2014, Yuri Daniel is part of the prestigious jazz band Jan Garbarek Group and embodies his personal project Yuri Daniel Band, born in 2004, in the company of guitarist António Pinto, pianist Alexandre Dinis and drummer Vicky Marques.

He recently released the CD entitled “Ritual Dance”, in quartet, integrating original compositions by Yuri Daniel, Filipe Raposo and Johannes Krieger.

In Portugal, he recorded with Rui Veloso, Dulce Pontes, Sérgio Godinho, José Mário Branco, Resistencia, Amélia Muge, Maria João and Mário Laginha. Abroad, he collaborated with names such as Paulo Moura, Cliff Korman, Rick Lathan, John Stubblefield and Frank Colon.

Luis Henrique
Born in 1980, Luís Henrique began his career in music in 2001, having chosen the electric bass as a musical instrument and communication vehicle.

Having initially studied a more erudite component, he begins to explore various types of musical languages ​​and the certainty of wanting to make music his life quickly takes shape.

Among the names with which he collaborated stand out João Frade, Manuela Lopes, Daniel de Moraes, Hugo Alves, Duncan Kinnel, Clive Pracy, Zé Eduardo, Tuniko Goulart, Yami, Johan Zachrison, Jean Paul Rena, Miguel Martins, Osvaldo Pegudo, Filipa Sousa, João Gil, Paulo Colaço, Tinto Beat, among many others.

He has played regularly all over the country and not just in various types of events.

He is currently pursuing his musical studies both in electric bass and double bass, researching some more contemporary languages.

In parallel, he develops a series of personal projects, including the DesCaroÇados group, alongside musicians João Frade and João Melro.

Since November 2014, he has been a member of the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve, directed by Hugo Alves.

David Peace
He began his studies as a clarinetist at the Conservatory of Professional Music in A Coruña, and became interested in traditional Galician music. Later, he developed his knowledge as a piper (self-taught) and later with professionals such as Bieito Romero and Brais Maceiras.

He attends Masterclasses taught by several musicians, such as Jose Luis Estellés, Anthony Pay, Sabine Meyer, Eddie Daniels, Juan Sancho and Henri Bock, among others.

He collaborates with several symphonic bands such as the Sementeira Music Band, the Rias Altas Music Band and the Agolada Music Band.

Between 2000 and 2003, he won the first prize for Intercentro Music in the province of A Coruña and for Traditional Music in Xiradela.

He had his first contact with modern music with the saxophonist Carlos Averhoff Jr, son of the mythical saxophonist from the Cuban band Irakere, and with him he began to study saxophone and modern harmony.

His training as a saxophonist went through the Orquestra Los Trovadores (tenor saxophone) for a few years and the Orquestra Los Satellites (tenor and baritone saxophone). Later, he collaborates with several groups such as Jose Somoza Big Band, Celanova's Big Band, Ardebullo Big Band, among others. And he assumes the position of musical director in a television program “Tourilandia”, where many international artists pass by.

Currently resides in Faro, collaborates with the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve and is part of the formation of local bands.
