It's not summer yet, but for a few hours it seemed like the peak of the bathing season on Ilha do Farol.

This Saturday, the housing nucleus of the Farol, on Culatra Island, was filled with anti-demolition demonstrators, in yet another action of struggle called by the associations of residents of this barrier island and by the group "Je Suis Ilhéus", in which nearly a thousand people participated.

For homeowners on the islands and opponents of the demolition process that Polis Ria Formosa is carrying out, this was a 25 de Abril a little different, although there was no lack of red carnations and slogans.

Hope was not lacking either, given the recent positive developments in the struggle that 176 landowners have started or will begin to wage with Sociedade Polis, in court: the acceptance, in a first phase, of the 134 injunctions presented.

The appeal was launched for the population to come to the Farol, to participate in a human cordon of protest against the demolitions. But the high point was the popular meeting that took place before this symbolic action, which served to review the situation regarding the progress of the process, in Ilha da Culatra.

The briefing was made by the president of the Ilha do Faro27 of Santa Maria Feliciano Júlio, who urged the owners of the houses at risk of being demolished to "be on the island on the 6th and XNUMXth of May", dates for which the administrative takeover of the houses by the Polis Ria Formosa Society is scheduled .

This is because, "we must be attentive", despite having also stated that the Polis "cannot enter your houses, not even in the backyard". "We won a battle, but we didn't win the fight," he summed up.

This meeting had moments of authentic euphoria, including the reception of the mayor of Olhão, who, as illustrated by Feliciano Júlio, "plotted" the Polis with the presentation of an injunction claiming that the demolitions are taking place in risk the fauna of the islands, "namely the chameleon, which is an endemic species here".

The mayor from Olhão was received with lots of applause and cheers and left the Farol as “Ilhéu”, after having literally put on the nightgown.
