The 8th crossing of the Via Algarviana, which began, for those who made it on foot, on March 21st in Alcoutim, ended this Good Friday, April 3rd, at Cabo de São Vicente.

The last section, between Vila do Bispo and Cabo de São Vicente, for a total of almost 17 kilometers, was attended by 35 people of various ages and nationalities. Of these, only two – Paco and António – covered the entire 300 kilometers on foot over 13 days, from Alcoutim.

For those who traveled the longest pedestrian or cyclable crossing in the region on a mountain bike, the crossing ended today too, with an 80-kilometre ride. In this case, the route started on the 30th of March, also in Alcoutim, and ends today, the 3rd of April, near Cabo de São Vicente.

One of the walkers of this final journey was Adelino Soares, mayor of Vila do Bispo, who, at the beginning of the walk, highlighted the good collaboration between his local authority and the association Almargem, responsible for Via Algarviana.

The 8th Travessia was sponsored by REN, ANA Aeroportos and Vila Vita Parc, supported by G-RIDE, Apolónia Supermercados, Frusoal, Quinta do Freixo and Madre Fruta, as well as logistical support from the Parish Councils and Town Halls crossed. along the route.

Via Algarviana is a Great Pedestrian Route (GR13) that connects Alcoutim to Cabo de S. Vicente, with a length of 300 kilometers, mostly located in the Serra Algarvia. It is intended to become part of the Trans-European Routes, connecting to the E4 and E9.

The itinerary crosses 11 municipalities in the Algarve (Alcoutim, Aljezur, Castro Marim, Tavira, S. Brás de Alportel, Loulé, Silves, Monchique, Lagos, Portimão and Vila do Bispo) and around 21 parishes, in two of the municipalities , for the time being, only connections to the main itinerary are planned.

In each parish, there was a concern to bring the road closer to places of greater natural and cultural interest, as well as accommodation and catering services, including rural tourism enterprises, typical villages in the Algarve countryside, etc.
