The 1st phase of Specific Access and Access for Over 23 Years Old to the Open University (UAb) – Portuguese Public University of Distance Learning and Elearning – is ongoing until the 6th of May. These candidacies are supported by the Chamber of Silves, which seven years ago signed a protocol with the Universidade Aberta to open the CLA in Silves.
This phase consists of applications for degrees from the UAb, for the 2015/2016 academic year, for candidates who meet the requirements of the M23, in the case of this type of Access and, in the case of Specific Access, for holders of the 12th year or legal equivalent , who are 21 years of age (or 18, provided they are student workers, and who have had this status since the age of 16).
The Bachelor courses available are Environmental Science, Social Science, Education, Art Studies, European Studies, Management, History, Humanities, Informatics, Applied Languages, Mathematics and Applications.

The Universidade Aberta has two types of student support: the Mutual Guarantee University Credit and the UAb Study Grant (the so-called scholarship that pays the entire tuition fee). They will also be able, under the support program for higher education students in the Municipality of Silves, to benefit from a scholarship for higher education courses.
