hospital of FaroThe Left Bloc's Parliamentary Group confronted the Government with complaints from nurses about an alleged attempt to limit the enjoyment of parenting rights at the Algarve Hospital Center (CHA), due to the shortage of this type of health professionals in Algarve hospitals.

BE says that responsible for the Union of Nurses denounced "practices typical of the XNUMXth century and that trample on fundamental rights", in a meeting between the various parliamentary groups and entities with responsibilities in the area of ​​health in the Algarve.

According to the union members, "there are nurses working after 20 pm or working shifts, without using the 2 hours a day for breastfeeding", as well as "pressure to enjoy the hours of breastfeeding on a day of the week".

The nurses' representatives also denounced the alleged refusal to provide "flexible hours for workers with children under 12" and to "pressure parents not to take their parental leave". There will also be "nurses who will have to prove that they are breastfeeding, contrary to the law".

The Bloc has already confronted the chairman of the Board of Directors of CHA Pedro Nunes with these allegations, who will have stated that he "is unaware of such practices".

The matter has now come to Parliament, on the initiative of BE Cecília Honório and Helena Pinto deputies, who want to know if the Ministry of Health is aware of these situations, is it acceptable that, «when it promotes itself in Parliament, and under the guidance of In the majority, the debate around birth blocks and solutions in our country, similar practices can occur in public hospitals” and if there are conditions “to reinforce the supervision of parenting rights”.
