Airport Faro_MonarchThe airports managed by the company ANA have had their Carbon Accreditation renewed by ACI Europa, and in some, such as the one in Faro, has even been improved.

According to the company, this year, level 1 (mapping) of the Airport Carbon Accreditation program was renewed at Lisbon, Porto and Beja airports, and level 2 (reduction) was achieved at airports. Faro, Madeira, Porto Santo, Ponta Delgada, Santa Maria, Horta and Flores.

A Airport Carbon Accreditation is an initiative of the ACI (Airports Council International) and constitutes a specific program for the management of carbon emissions for Airports.

Through it, ACI assesses and recognizes the efforts of Airports to manage and reduce their carbon emissions, with four levels of recognition: “Mapping”, “Reduction”, “Optimization” and “Neutrality”.

This programme, which started at ICA Europe, has recently been extended to Asia-Pacific and Africa.

Accreditation at the “Mapping” level means that ANA, a company of the VINCI Airports group, has implemented a strategy to account for all sources of CO2 emissions that are under its direct control.

On the other hand, accreditation at the “Reduction” level means that ANA not only knows its CO2 emissions, but has managed to reduce the corresponding carbon footprint.

The calculation of the carbon footprint of ANA airports is subject to verification by an external and independent entity, reinforcing the credibility of the emission levels declared by the company of the VINCI Airports group.

The latest figures released by the ACI registered a total of 122 accredited Airports, 90 in Europe, 24 in Asia, 6 in North America, 1 in Latin America/Caribbean and 1 in Africa. In the European region, the 90 accredited airports represent 66,3% of the total number of passengers.
