Two Olympic triathletes, João Silva, from Sport Lisboa e Benfica (00:54:37), and Pamella Oliveira (Brazil), from the CD “Águias” de Alpiarça (01:02:00), were the winners of the Triathlon that was contested on Sunday, March 1st, in Vila Real de Santo António.

The race, with a Sprint distance (750 meters of Swimming + 20 kilometers of Cycling + 5 kilometers of Running), was eligible for the National Club Championship.

In the classification for Women's teams, the highest place on the podium was achieved by the CD “Águias” from Alpiarça. Sporting CP came in second and third place was won by Teleperformance – “Os Belenenses”.

In the classification by Men's Teams, Sport Lisboa e Benfica reached the first place, followed by O Portugal Talentus and in third place was the CD “Águias” by Alpiarça.

Athlete João Silva, from SL Benfica, commented: “At this time of year, in Europe, it will be practically the only place where you can do a triathlon swimming in open water. The temperature is not so cold and today we were lucky to have the population of Vila Real attending en masse, to support the teams in the National Championship. The atmosphere was very good and I was very happy to be able to participate”.

After two competitions in the space of a week, it appears that the Algarve has unique and ideal conditions in Europe for triathlon competitions, so it is expected that FTP and local authorities will continue to invest in this fantastic sport next year. that gathers more and more practitioners.

In the VRSA triathlon, at regional level, Louletano, which reached 15th place for men's teams (out of 29), a position in the middle of the National Club Championship table, was the best formation in the Algarve, among five in competition.

Second place was occupied by Southern Lions and third by O2-Triathlon. In the women's sector, the O2-Triathlon team secured 7th place in Portugal, being the best team in the Algarve.

Thus, with regard to podiums, highlighted in the female sector, in Echelon V1, 2nd place by Ana Sanches (O2 – Triathlon); Echelon V2, Larissa Möller's 1st place (O2 – Triathlon); Grade V3 1st place by Alice Direitinho (Louletano) and Grade V4, 1st place by Jill Edwards (O2 – Triathlon).

In the men's sector, Echelon V1 stands out, with David Caldeirão (Louletano) in 3rd place and Escalão V5, with Amândio Norberto (Leões do Sul) in 1st place.

The thrill of triathlon returns to the Algarve on March 22, in Quarteira, for another stage of the Portuguese Cup, where 500 more triathletes are expected to attend.

The day before, also in Quarteira, the first stage of the ETU (European Triathlon Union) will take place, which will be attended by the best European triathletes.
