Diogo Lopes and Maria Cabrita achieved the feat after good performances in the Portuguese Sprint and Selective Cup for National Teams, which took place this weekend in Montemor-o-Velho.

Diogo Lopes won the final A of the Portuguese Cup of Speed ​​and Selectiva for the national teams, in K1 200 meters. The athlete from Kayak Clube Castores do Arade, only 19 years old, won in Absolute, finishing the race in 36,408 seconds, ahead of João Ribeiro (SL Benfica) and Hugo Rocha (CN Marecos) who finished in 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.

Maria Cabrita qualified for the two women's finals, in K1 200 and 500 meters, and finished in 6th and 7th place Absolute, respectively, but in 2nd place in the Under-23 category, behind Francisca Laia, her colleague in K2 who won the bronze medal in the 500 meters Under-23, in the last European Championship.

The club's main goals for this season are the JUN/U-23 World Championship, to be held in Montemor-o-Velho, from July 24th to 26th, and the Absolute World Championship, to qualify for the Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro 2016, from the 19th to the 23rd of August.

The highlights of this Cup are not limited to these two athletes. Diogo Fazenda, Beatriz Reis, Tomás Santos and Ana Bebiano also guaranteed their presence in the A finals.

Beatriz Reis qualified for the two A finals of K1 in the Junior Women category. Diogo Fazenda guaranteed his presence in the final A in K1 200m Absolutos, finishing in 6th place, and Ana Bebiano guaranteed access to the final A of K1 200 Absolute Women, finishing in 9th position and won the final B of K1 500m.

The revelation of the day was Tomás Santos, the 15-year-old, in his first year in the Cadet category, he managed to qualify for the K1 200m final, finishing in 5th position.

In total, the KCCA secured 10 finals, 8 A finals and two B finals and finished 6th in the classification for clubs among 45 sets. The competition was organized by the Portuguese Canoeing Federation, in partnership with the Municipality of Montemor-o-Velho, on the 28th and 28th of March, and was attended by 800 athletes who performed over 190 races.
