This Thursday, the Port of Sines hosted a simulation of the Public Health Unit of the Local Health Unit of the Alentejo Coast, called Niger 2015, with the objective of testing the detection, validation and referral capacity of a suspected case of Ebola in the Alentejo region, as well as all the procedures to be implemented in a confirmed diagnosis situation.

The exercise consisted of simulating the arrival of a ship from the port of Conakry, in Guinea-Conakry, to the Port of Sines, with a crew member on board with symptoms suggestive of Ebola.

Based on this scenario, USP-ULSLA and the Department of Public Health of the Regional Health Administration of Alentejo, together with the Local Maritime Authority, Local Border Authority (SEF), Port Authority (APS), Civil Protection, Directorate General Health (DGS), INEM and GNR, tested the communications between themselves, as well as the validation process of the case with the DGS, and the removal of the patient, as a "probable case", from the ship by INEM.

The Niger 2015 exercise ended with the GNR escorting the INEM ambulance until leaving the municipality of Sines.
