Castro Marim joined «Natural.PT», a brand linked to the National Network of Protected Areas of the National System of Classified Areas launched by the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF), so that «the municipality can promote its unique spaces and for the territory to see its excellence recognized nationally and internationally».
According to the local authority, «the brand “Natural.PT” is intended as a brand of excellence, quality and trust, associated with principles of sustainability, valuing nature and endogenous resources and supporting local and regional development».
In practice, joining the initiative will allow operators who carry out activities in protected areas, or close to them, to apply to use «Natural.PT» to value their products. Candidates will be able to apply on a platform that will be created for this purpose.
The application will then be evaluated by the Local Operationalization and Management Platform (PLOG), where the Castro Marim City Council is represented with a technician appointed for this purpose.
«The Municipality of Castro Marim considers that this will be a way to enhance its protected areas, namely the Natural Reserve of Sapal de Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António, with about 2140 hectares in the municipality and a huge potential in the scope of the activity salineira, aquaculture and birdwatching, among others», concluded the municipality.
