domestic violenceThe University of Algarve will host this afternoon, at 14 pm, in the green auditorium of the Faculty of Science and Technology, a seminar on violence and abuse in the family. The event is organized by the Territorial Command of Faro of the GNR, as part of the celebrations of its 6th anniversary.

According to a note released by UAlg, «despite the intention to present a general approach to the subject, the seminar will feature in the

panel of speakers with specialists from different areas, thus reinforcing the educational nature of the theme, through exhibition and debate, mobilizing the scientific and technical community for the specificities of this phenomenon».

The opening session will be chaired by the rector of the University of the Algarve, António Branco, followed by the president of the National Commission for the Protection of Children and Youth at Risk, Armando Leandro, who will address the theme “Children/Youth Rights than domestic violence , vicarious or direct, disrespects. Requirements for its prevention and repair”.

The second intervention will be in charge of Maria José Magalhães, president of the Alternative and Response Women's Union (UMAR), who will speak about the “Cultural and structural barriers in the protection of women, children and the elderly against domestic violence”.

At 16 pm, Maria Conceição Roubaco, from the Legal Medicine Institute of Faro, will address the “Bad treatment of the elderly – concept, forms of violence and prevention. Medical Legal Perspective."

To end the panel of speakers, Joaquim Vivas, head of the Information and Criminal Investigation section of the Territorial Command of Faro of the GNR, will explain “The role of the GNR – IAVE Project”.

The closing session will be chaired by Rogério Bacalhau, president of the City Council of Faro.
