thiefThree young people, all residents of Portimão, were caught by the PSP, in the act, robbing a store on Avenida Comunidade Lusíadas, in that city, at around 2:00 am on Sunday, 11 January.

According to a note from the District Command of Faro Police elements of the Police Station of Portimão, during their normal patrol, found "a bottle of an alcoholic beverage almost full on the carriageway", so "they suspected that some commercial establishment could have been the target of theft".

They then went to check the stores in the area and ended up detecting one that, although closed, had the lock showing signs of having been forced open. Despite the establishment's door being closed and no movement was detected inside, the PSP agents "decided to wait and remained under surveillance of the place".

Shortly thereafter, "they detected three individuals leaving the interior of the commercial establishment carrying various products".

The trio, as soon as they saw the police, fled, but "despite the resistance, they were intercepted and handcuffed."

The assailants were three boys, aged 20, 19 and 16, one of them a foreign national, all residing in Portimão.

The PSP seized the products that were in its possession when leaving the store: “a screwdriver, 27 bottles of drink (red bull, somersby), 30 food products, several packages of tissues, napkins and toilet paper and several plastic cups, all worth approximately 150 euros”.

Inside the store, the police also found "a large quantity of products laid out on the floor" and "prepared to be transported", suspecting that the trio intended to return to the place to go get them.

The PSP also found that, next to that location, four more stores had damage to the doors, "coincident with those caused by the seized screwdriver".

According to the police, the detainees were already referenced for various types of criminal offenses.
